Jerry Kennedy grew up, and still lives, in Coal Run, just outside of Zanesville, Ohio. The community went almost 50 years without access to running water, and the water supply that they did have access to was contaminated with sulfur and other toxins. Those living in Coal Run had to dig wells, cisterns and build outhouses due to the lack of running water. Many of the residents were awarded money after a federal jury agreed that they had been denied service due to their race.
